Crowning

Buckling

Black stains

Dark discoloration in the wood itself, not just on the surface. This is tannin reacting with moisture and iron (often from old nails). Light stains can be sanded out. Deep stains may require board replacement or oxalic acid treatment.

In most cases, yes. If the moisture source is resolved and the wood is not rotted, the planks will often flatten on their own over weeks to months. Once stable, the floor can be sanded and refinished normally. Severe cases may need a few boards replaced, but full replacement is rarely necessary.

How long does the floor need to dry before sanding?
